Precious Metals Jeweller’s (PMJ) Permit in South Africa
A Jeweller’s Permit is what allows you to legally buy, sell and manufacture jewellery made from gold & precious metals in South Africa. The paperwork is exacting, and one missing document can set you back months. We guide you through every page, so your application is right the first time.
Understanding the PMJ
What the permit is. Why it matters.
The Precious Metals Jeweller’s Permit is issued by the South African Diamond & Precious Metals Regulator (SADPMR). It is the authorisation that lets you operate as a manufacturing jeweller in a regulated industry. Without it, you can’t trade, make or sell gold & precious metal jewellery legally.
Issued by SADPMR
The statutory regulator assesses every application, so your paperwork has to speak its language.
Individual or Company
You can apply as a person or as a registered company. Company applications need extra documents, and we guide you through both.
Business Plan Required
Every application needs a five-year business plan prepared to the mining charter. We draft it for you.
Workshop or Studio
You need proof of a jewellery studio or workshop, supported by a five-year lease agreement.
NEMA Compliance Letter
An environmental compliance letter is part of the checklist. We draft it for you.
Technical Ability
You must show proof of technical ability through accredited jewellery manufacturing training, which DiamGold provides.
