Diamonds and Diamond Grading Course

Diamond Grading Online or In-Person Course

Master Diamond Grading with Expert One-on-One Training

Every polished diamond tells a story in its cut, colour, clarity and carat — if you know how to read it. Trained on the internationally recognised GIA 4Cs system, this course teaches you to assess polished diamonds with professional precision. Then we take you into a real jewellery store to prove it.

See a diamond
the way a grader
sees
 one.

Grading isn’t just
for gemologists.
It’s for anyone who buys,
sells, or loves diamonds.

“A diamond doesn’t change when you grade it. But your understanding of it completely transforms — and so does every conversation you’ll ever have about one.”

Whether you’re a jeweller trying to advise clients with confidence, a retailer who needs to communicate value clearly, a buyer who wants to know exactly what they’re purchasing, or someone who simply fell in love with diamonds and wants to understand them deeply — grading is the foundation.

diamonds-and-diamond-grading-course

The GIA 4Cs system is the international language of diamond quality. Carat. Cut. Colour. Clarity. Every certificate, every price list, every professional conversation in the diamond world revolves around these four factors. This course teaches you to apply them — not just recite them.

And in our full in-person experience, you don’t just practice in a studio. We take you into a real jewellery store, with real inventory, and real customers — so you can see how grading knowledge becomes professional confidence in a live retail environment.

The GIA 4Cs.
The international language
of diamond quality.

Developed by the Gemological Institute of America, the 4Cs are the globally accepted framework for assessing and communicating diamond quality. This course teaches you to apply all four at professional level — not just define them.

Colour

For white diamonds, colour refers to the absence of colour — from D (completely colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Learn to detect subtle colour differences that represent significant value shifts.

  • The D-to-Z colour grading scale
  • Detecting subtle colour under controlled lighting
  • How colour grade affects price
  • Fancy colour diamond classification
  • Colour grading reports and master stones

Clarity

Clarity measures the presence of inclusions (internal) and blemishes (external). Learn to map, identify and grade these characteristics — and understand how treatments attempt to hide them.

  • The FL-to-I3 clarity grading scale
  • Identifying inclusions under loupe and microscope
  • Diamond plotting and documentation
  • Treatment detection: laser drilling, fracture filling
  • How clarity interacts with cut and value

Carat

Diamond weight measured in metric carats. Understand how carat interacts with cut and shape to determine perceived size — and how weight affects price exponentially.

  • Metric carat system and decimal weights
  • Carat vs size — the visual relationship
  • How shape affects perceived carat weight
  • Weight estimation without a scale
  • Price per carat and price breaks

Cut

The most complex of the 4Cs. Cut determines how light behaves inside a diamond — its brilliance, fire and scintillation. A poorly cut diamond of excellent colour and clarity can be worth far less than a well-cut stone of modest grades.

  • Cut grades: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor
  • Symmetry, proportions and light refraction
  • Fire, brilliance and scintillation
  • Fancy cut evaluation: pear, marquise, oval, cushion
  • How cut affects market value

Read the certificate.
Then read the diamond.

Laboratory reports from GIA, EGL and IGI are the documents that move the diamond market. Every serious buyer, seller and retailer needs to read them fluently — understanding not just the grades but what they mean for a stone’s beauty and value in practice.

We teach you to read reports and then verify them with your own eyes. There’s an important difference between what a certificate says and what you see under the loupe — and understanding that gap is what separates a trained grader from someone who just read the paperwork.

In the full in-person experience, this comes alive during the jewellery store visit — where you’ll apply grading knowledge to real inventory, read the reports on display diamonds, and understand how retail pricing connects back to Rapaport and the 4Cs.

One intensive day.
A lifetime of confident eyes.

The in-person component is a focused, private session — one-on-one instruction tailored to your background, pace, and goals. Every topic is applied immediately with real stones in your hands.
