De Beers is making it easier to resell or buy vintage diamonds and pre-owned diamonds with confidence.
De Beers has just announced a new partnership with CIRCA, a global buyer of pre-owned fine diamond jewellery and watches, which will use new diamond detection equipment to find out whether second hand and resold diamonds are legitimate.
Educational services will be provided to help the industry improve on determining that the diamonds in vintage pieces are real, natural diamonds.
“De Beers Group detection equipment can provide confidence by authenticating that each of the diamonds Circa buys are natural,” explained Jonathan Kendall, president of De Beers Group Industry Services.
There’s an increasing demand from consumers now for proof that diamonds are ethically and sustainably sourced.
Many jewellery houses, like De Beers, are working towards creating a more sustainable industry. Some brands are choosing to work with laboratory-grown diamonds to avoid using blood diamonds in an effort to have a more ethical and sustainable footprint. Buying pre-owned or vintage pieces is another favoured method for improving sustainability.
